Every paragliding flight on GetYourGuide

How old do you have to be to go paragliding?

From 5 on several flights here, and the tourist office says six.

  • The youngest

From 5 at Skywings, AlpinAir, Airtime, Noahinair and on the guided hike. From 6 on the day trip from Geneva, from 7 on the one from Zurich.

  • The lightest

At least 25 kg at Paragliding Interlaken GmbH, and 30 kg at Swiss Paragliding and Switzerland Paragliding. Under 30 kg, Skywings flies you before 11:00.

  • The oldest

Skywings sets 60 as the limit on its 80 kg slots, and Noahinair rules out passengers over 95. The other pages give no upper age.

  • Health

Skywings, Airtime, Switzerland Paragliding and the guided hike rule out pregnancy. Skywings and Sky4All rule out heart problems and epilepsy. The other pages say less, so ask if in doubt.

  • Fitness

You run a few steps at take-off. Switzerland Paragliding asks that you can run 10 metres, and Sky4All's flight needs no running at all.

What should you wear for paragliding?

Sports clothes and proper footwear, with warmer layers in winter.

What the operators ask for

  • Closed shoes or boots that support the ankles
  • A jacket or windbreaker
  • Clothes for the weather
  • Sunglasses

In winter

  • Warm clothes
  • A coat and gloves

Some lend you

  • Hiking boots at Skywings
  • Boots and a windbreaker at AlpinAir
  • Mountain shoes at Paragliding Interlaken GmbH
  • Boots or a jacket at Airtime, when needed

Is paragliding in Interlaken safe?

We give no accident figure, because we found no solid source for one.

View over Lake Thun from Beatenberg with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau in the distance, March 2017.

Swiss law requires an official Swiss licence for a tandem pilot, valid three years for commercial flights. The keeper of a tandem aircraft must carry passenger liability insurance of at least five million francs on commercial flights.

The same ordinance says paragliders are not entered in the aircraft register and their airworthiness is not tested.

The Swiss Hang Gliding Association says liability insurance only pays if the pilot made a mistake. If you are hurt through no fault of the pilot, your own accident insurance applies, and foreign passengers often have too little. Check your cover before you fly.

Weather decides whether you fly, and operators often decide late. Skywings says conditions can change quickly and that its final decision usually comes close to the flight.

Can a 100 kg person go paragliding in Interlaken?

Yes: Paragliding Interlaken GmbH takes up to 100 kg on its listed slots, and one flight from Mürren goes up to 115 kg.

Can a 120 kg person go paragliding here?

Not on the flights we compare: the highest limit is 115 kg.

What if you are over the limit on the day?

Switzerland Paragliding says it gives no refund if you do not follow its rule for passengers over 90 kg. Give your real weight when you choose.

Can a wheelchair user fly?

Yes: Sky4All flies wheelchair users in an adapted flight wheelchair, up to 91 kg. Phone the pilot right after booking to confirm that the flight suits you.

Is there a minimum weight?

On three flights, yes: 25 kg at Paragliding Interlaken GmbH, and 30 kg at Swiss Paragliding and Switzerland Paragliding.

Can couples fly together?

A tandem is a pilot and one passenger, so each of you flies with your own pilot. Ask the operator about flying at the same time.

How much does a flight cost?

From €196. The flights that take the highest weights start at €207 and €196.
